June 2010 - Fun Fun Fun Fun FunFUNFUNFUNFUNFUN!!!!
Our album Fun Anxiety has finally touched down and is available to purchase. We've been getting some great press, a reviewer said about us that "if this is where British music is heading, you best book your ticket for the ride". Others have described us as tasting "of sherbet and liquorice". To see if you think if we sit in the sherbert or licorice camp, why not buy a copy by visiting our label website shop and clicking buy! While you're there I heartily recommend scouring the Armellodie back catalogue for some utter gems.

Whilst we're on the promotional drive, you can read this interview I did with the lovely Glasgow blogspot Elba Sessions where I ramble on about the creative process, life, love and shameful displays in an England shirt.

What other news? Well, our album's also on Spotify! And we've got some new photos saturated with our handsome bass noodler general Biffy D I Gestivum.

March 2010 - New single - Rummy - Out Now on Armellodie, come get some! Plus, more on the tour...

To get your hands on a copy, buy it from the Armellodie store. Or alternatively download some tracks from itunes We'll be officially launching at the Good Ship in Kilburn on March 13th, come down and join in the fun.

January and February 2010 - New single - Rummy - Out March 8th on Armellodie, album news and last Mutiny at the Grapes
OK, no news for ages and then I steamroller you with a million things at once. First up- we're going release nuts in 2010. Our first single since our 2008 EP will finally be available through Armellodie Records (check out their brilliant new website) from March 8th. It is a little warm me up for our forthcoming album in May released also on Armelodie- more of which later...

Tracks for the single are Rummy, Reverse Psychaiatry and a demo version of Supermarket Sweep (a kind of psyche folk anti-consumerist rant). For some early reviews see here and here (look in the reviews/singles section). Our friend James Oliver has been beavering away on a hilarious promo video which you have to see when it's done. You won't be able to look at ginger biscuits in the same light ever again.

The song Rummy is the first extract from our long in the making debut LP Fun Anxiety, which is at the manufacturers being printed as I type this. Physical copies will be with us any day bringing to fruition over a years worth of toil, blood and anguish. We're sure it's worth every droplet of effort. The track listing is as follows:

Santino
Spot The Leopard
Rope
The Yellow Brush
Dutch Rudder
Clovers
Missing Canoeist
Rummy
Lebanese
House Band At The Asylum
Cellar Dweller
Harpers Call

Mutiny news- it is with regret to announce that we are ending our bi-monthly residency at the Grapes this month. The event on February 20th will be our last for a while at the venue, though by no means the last you'll be seeing of Mutiny. The bill is a best of Mutiny selection featuring our dear friends Cuddly Shark and Yoyo Static and the Shockettes. The Cuddlys are playing their first show in Sheffield since releasing their amazing album last year. If you haven't yet heard it, get your mits on a copy from the Armellodie Records shop. I can't understand why this band aren't absolutely massive. As for Mutiny post Feb, we'll be putting on regular one-off specials at different locations featuring mouth watering line ups. First one is lined up for April 7th at the Harley (Acoustic Ladyland, Bilge Pump anyone?).

Ok, that's enough from me for now. More next time on the tour, the album and another night with Acoustic Ladyland.

October '09 - The king is dead, long live the king
So what happened to August and September?
A virus literally ate my computer. Totally killed it, stone dead. A re-format and some painful hours installing all my old programmes later, and we're back up and running.

So what news?
Main headlines: we've finished recording and mixing the album- it's in the process of being mastered and it's an absolute belter. It's 12 tracks long and it's called Fun Anxiety.

When can we hear it?
Hopefully we'll have it out on Armellodie in time for xmas stocking fillers.

And what of Yozza?
He has disembarked our vessel and begun a new adventure with his expectant partner Jenny. The new addition to their family is imminent, and we're all really excited for them. Our last brilliant Mutiny in September was his swansong. We will miss him.

So who comes in?
His name is Giles Robinson. He is a fantastic bass player, a mean cook, and a great friend. He's slotted in super, fast quick. Come see his debut on Friday 16th October at the Grapes in Sheffield at the Pisco Sour Hour presents night.

Gigs?
Plenty. One on October 16th, one on the 29th, two in December, more to follow and to be announced.

Do you still love us?
Of course we do.

July '09 - Radio killed the video star
I think we can officially say that we have finally arrived now we have notched up a BBC Raw Talent session on our bed post. If you didn't have the pleasure of listening to our cracking one take versions of Rummy, Spot The Leopard and Santino, interspersed with some not too inane witterings, you can catch us for a short time longer at BBC Radio Sheffield session. Actually it was a great experience, we really enjoyed it, so thanks to Iain Hodgson for making it happen.

Thanks also goes to everyone who made it to the first Mutiny special last month featuring Acoustic Ladyland. It was an amazing night. We, and most of the people in the room, had an absolute blast. Pete Wareham from the band said it was the best night on the tour by a mile, and the one of the best gigs they had played in a long while. If you came down, cheers for helping make that the case. There'll be more shows where that came from. I'll keep you posted.

Elsewhere in Captains world, the LP is coming on at a pace. We're about 7 songs in, so I think well on course for our self imposed autumn deadline. It's sounding good. Current working titles are: a) The Bulgarian Heresy, or b) Serving The Industry. Let us know your suggestions by emailing us at killthecaptains@gmail.com. In the meantime, why not listen to some jams from our practise last thursday on the Music section of this very website featuring Mr Giles Robinson on bass guitar.

June '09 - Chuck a couple of snags on the barbie
What a weekend! The sun's blazing, I'm stuffed from indulging on homemade burgers and massive salads, shouler muscles throb from a quick knock of cricket. Bliss. A whole summer of this and I'll be happy as Larry. Only a matter of weeks away now til our blockbuster Acoustic Ladyland gig. Tickets are selling well, but there are still some available for a knock down £9 in advance from WeGotTickets.com I'm massively excited. get yo ass down!

We've been hammering away on the recordings which I'm really looking forward to sharing. Producer Paul and cohort Yoz have hit their stride in the studio recently. I think we're going to unleash a beast with the album. We've got most of the new EP sorted, just needs some final tweaks and then we'll finally have something to follow up last year's release. Then we'll be fully justified in removing the image on the left with new single artwork. But the album's where it's at. Expect something in the autumn.

Thanks to all who came to Mutiny in May. I only have three words to say about it: I love Fists. I hope we get a chance to play with them again soon.

If you happen to be passing Sowersby Bridge in North Yorkshire on June 12th, pop in and say hello to us at the Puzzle Hall Inn. If not, see you at the Shakespeare on the 19th June.

April '09 - Excuse me while I kiss this guy
So, about this exciting news of the first Mutiny special I was talking about- well I'm pleased to announce that it is firmly in the diary for Friday June 19th at the Shakespeare on Gibralter Street in Sheffield and features the amazing Acoustic Ladyland. If you've not come across them before, I urge you to check them out. They are one of the best live bands I have ever seen and feature the legendary Seb Rocheford on drums and Pete Wareham (a modern day Coltrane) on Sax. We are really excited about putting them on. They're going to take the house down. Making up the bill will be ourselves, The Legend of the 7 Black Tentacles and some choice DJs playing until about 1am. Tickets are £10, or £9 in advance from WeGotTickets.com

And what about May Mutiny I hear you ask? Well, we have the wonderful "psychedelic strumpalong" of Little Glitches headlining for us, and from Nottingham - Fists who had to unfortunately pull out of our last Mutiny but who we are really pleased to be able reschedule for this one. It's at the Grapes once more, the date- saturday May 23rd, price- only £3.

Last but very much not least - we are hoping to have our new EP finished and out there soon. Then we embark on the debut LP- which I personally can't wait to get stuck into.

March '09 - Baby it's cold outside!
Finally, yes finally we have some new tunes to share. We're quite chuffed with how they've turned out- all self produced as they are (or should I say Scouse produced). They're not up here yet, as I'm notoriously slack with stuff like that, but you can earwig Rummy, Spot The Leopard and our majestic opus The Yellow Brush on our myspace site... www.myspace.com/killthecaptains

Counting down to Mutiny in a couple of weeks, looking forward to it as ever. Slight change to the bill that the eagle eyed might have noticed- Fists have had to pull out unfortunately, but we're very pleased to welcome Electrice Tape Recorder, who come with a seal of approval from esteemed journo Everett True no less. Looking into the crystal ball for June, we are lining up something very special indeed, the first of what we are hoping will be many Mutiny specials featuring an act of the highest calibre. I can't really say anymore than that for the time being, other than to keep checking the website for more news.

In other news, we've got a couple of good shows lined up for April. We're hooking up with Le Reno Amps at West Street Live on April 14th- which should be a great night (it's free too). They are busy touring their new album which, from what I've heard promises to be a killer. If you need convincing, go and check their myspace site - www.myspace.com/lerenoamps and listen to Outlaws and come back and tell me you're still not convinced. Then we head to London on April 18th for another collosal night at the Good Ship.

February '09 - Must be the credit crunch
We seemed to have been struck down with a curse this month as three of our gigs have been cancelled in the space of a week. Leeds at the Brudenell on the 7th Feb double booked, the Stockroom on the 11th Feb double booked, and the Magnet in Liverpool have decided to not put gigs on saturdays anymore, pulling the rug from under our 21st March show. I put it down to the economic down turn and tumbling interest rates. The good news is that they're all in the process of being rescheduled, so watch this space.

As expected, January Mutiny was a raging success- the best one yet. Great atmosphere, great bands- was a real pleasure. Roll on 21st March for Scaramanga Six and Fists. If you made it along too the last one you might have noticed James Oliver and his film crew buzzing around capturing footage for a new video of our tune Rummy (next single). Thanks to Lenny and Emily for adding their own "Awesome I Shot That" style crowd pov shots.

I'm off to put some vocals down on some stuff we've been working on for what seems like an age now (including said new single). We'll be sharing it with you when it's ready. Until next time...

January '09 - Firebrands, ballast, plugs
It's a new dawn it's a new year, it's 09, everyone's moping about how they've already broken their new year's resolutions, that they're not drinking until summer, and how that recently acquired extra inch round the perimeter just won't shift. We've been working on a special Mutiny flavoured tonic which should go some way to alleviate the January blues on the 24th Jan. Headlining for us are Leeds based firebrands Bilge Pump, potentially setting the bench mark for all our Mutinys to come. Come along, get dancing, and before you know it all the yuletide ballast will drop off, and you will have forgotten you ever went back to work.

How did Xmas treat you? Our drummer Paul enjoyed the gift of ear plugs - and enthusiastically unveiled them last night, before lodging one of them so far down his ear canal as to be irretrievable without the intervention of some dislodging instrument. A little panic ensued, but I came to the rescue fishing it out with the nearest guitar string wire cutter (tweezers weren't at hand). Paul P documented it on his camera phone, photo to be shared here shortly...

Any way, enough wittering. See you at a gig soon I hope...

December '08 - Admiral Frost nippin at your toes
So what's been going on? I trust you're well, wrapped up warm for the winter season, buying all your pressies, roasting those chestnuts on the open fire. I hope you made it to the birthday Mutiny. If you did, I'm sure you'll agree that it was a fitting birthday bonanza. Good to see Cuddly Shark South of the border once more.

We've got our next two line ups sorted. January is looking marvelous- with a cracking line-up of ourselves, The Interiors and the incendiary Bilge Pump headlining. You'd be silly to miss it. It's Jan 24th at the Grapes as per usual. We're currently working on getting some big names for 2009... watch this space.

Most of November has been dedicated to demoing stuff that will appear on our LP in the New Year. It's going well- but we're not yet done. I promise to share a sample of the fruits of our endeavours when we get anywhere mixed down versions.

Other news... our EP got a review in Sandman, follow this link to read it.

Merry Christmas!

October '08 - Ripping yarns
Another solid month capped off by our best Mutiny yet. Really enjoyed sharing a bill with Gyppos and Yo Yo Static, the night was a belter. We've got Cuddly Shark and Downdime for the next one in November- think of it as a first year anniversary "best of" selection. Both bands are massive favourites of ours - it really is a stonking line up. So don't miss it for the world.

Got to admit, I'm a little hacked off this morning at my discovery of a death metal band called Kill The Captain. Mmmm, interesting choice of name. If they were from distant spot on the other side of the world I could pass it off as a coincidence- but they're from just down the road in York. I might invite them down for a battle of the Kill The Captains. This county ain't big enough for the both of us.

Live dates coming up- we're playing in Sheffield at the Casbah on the 25th October, then there's an as yet confirmed gig in Leeds on November 21st with Downdime and Cuddly Shark followed by Mutiny on November 22nd with the same line up at our home from homes- the Grapes, Sheffield.

September '08 - Mutiny on the Good Ship
It's been a diligent month for us Captains. We've got our heads down and started cooking up a bunch of new material that we're pretty happy with. The idea is to get tonnes of tunes ready from which we can cherry pick a kick ass, multi layered cake of an lp by early next year. We've also managed to squeeze in our London debut at the Good Ship in Kilburn. We had an absolute blast of a time, met up with some old faces and met a few new ones too. Thanks to everyone who made it.

Coming soon on this site will be a new MOVIES page featuring all of our excursions into the world of the moving image. The latest feature is a delirious road movie/ rockumentary about our May tour of Scotland which will amuse and baffle in equal measure. We're going to start posting more of our studio experiments in the Music section of the site too, so keep coming back and checking for new stuff.

August '08 - Video Killed the Radio Star
Check out our debut vid promo brilliantly edited from hours of nonsense in Scotland by Jason from Cuddly Shark/ Le Reno Amps. MTV2 are bracing themselves...

July '08 - EP Launch
Press Release... Recorded in October of last year with acclaimed producer Alan Smythe (Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Long Blondes, Reverend and the Makers), the EP is the perfect introduction to a band who believes that adventurous, noisy rock music can be fun and temper their most out-there moments with shout-along choruses and fizzing interplay between their dual-guitar attacks.

From the opening feedback of lead track, ‘Bottom Lip’, with its preppy Buzzcocks-esque chugging guitars, to the breezy 12/8 pace of ‘Chrunt’ concerned with God complexes and mistaken identity no less. Then there’s the beautiful lullaby, ‘Long in the Tooth’, the closest the band are ever likely to breach ‘power-ballad’ territory. The closing track, and live favourite, ‘Fun Anxiety’ documents a very serious psychological condition suffered by many of Kill the Captains nearest and dearest. Everybody in the world is currently having more fun than you and you can't even remember the paltry amusements which do crop up from time to time. This is because you are also suffering from "Funmnesia".
